This statement of WHO has been released on Friday, 27 January after the 14th meeting of the International Health Regulation (2005) Emergency Committee regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic. The Director-General of WHO agrees with the advice given by the Committee regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and public health emergency of international concern-PHEIC Agreed to continue (Public Health Emergency of International Concern -PHEIC).
The WHO said in a statement that the committee agreed that COVID-19 remains a dangerous infectious disease with the potential to cause significant damage to health and health systems. The WHO said the committee discussed whether the continuation of the PHEIC needed to maintain the global focus on COVID-19.
