WHO Says COVID 19 Remains A Public Health Emergency Of International Concern

What did the WHO chief say?

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, “COVID-19 remains a public health emergency of international concern. Although the World Health Organization has also accepted that the virus is probably at an infection point, it is necessary to be careful and minimize the possible negative consequences of this infection.

This statement of WHO has been released on Friday, 27 January after the 14th meeting of the International Health Regulation (2005) Emergency Committee regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic. The Director-General of WHO agrees with the advice given by the Committee regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and public health emergency of international concern-PHEIC Agreed to continue (Public Health Emergency of International Concern -PHEIC).

The WHO said in a statement that the committee agreed that COVID-19 remains a dangerous infectious disease with the potential to cause significant damage to health and health systems. The WHO said the committee discussed whether the continuation of the PHEIC needed to maintain the global focus on COVID-19. Along with this, the possible negative danger arising from the abolition of PHEIC and how to deal with the infection in a safe manner was also talked about.
